Old news...

October 5, 1999

  • Here is (as promised) the new beta release: DooM Legacy v1.29 beta 9. The new features are listed below:
  • Transparent monster are better supported in hardware mode (glide/OpenGL)
  • Better hardware texture cache management (this crashed Legacy with some mods) So, you can expect much less "segment violation" than before :-))
  • Network optimized
  • Pics are now visible in hardware mode
  • Missing polygons on some map seems to be fixed
  • The "crappymlook" mode has been optimized (once again)
  • A new launcher (v1.1) is available
  • The glide version works, and works better (not totally perfect, but not so bad). New OpenGL features are not available though, and it seems it doesn't work the same (texture coordinate) on Voodoo2 as on Banshee, probably depending on the glide3x.dll version. I'll have a deeper look in the next few days.
  • ...and much more! (I don't remember exactly all the bugs Boris fixed and what I added in beta 8)

October 2, 1999
  • I'm so happy these days! Only good news concerning DooM Legacy... I've done a new "join" between Boris' code and mine last Wednesday. The result is a new exe ;-) At this time I only sent it to EvilAsh to ask him if he could do some beta test. He told me he did a lot of them and the result was promising. Most of the mods which didn't work with glLegacy now work :-) It sounds great, isn't it? That's why you can expect a new public beta release this week-end or at the beginning of next week. Only if Boris doesn't forget to send me the *.txt files for the new Launcher ;-) Yoohoo Boris? I keep some more news for the release date of this new beta version, stay tuned!

October 1, 1999
  • I've updated yesterday the official DooM Legacy web site at frag.com with some bad and some good news concerning the future of (OpenGL) DooM Legacy.

September 26, 1999
  • Sorry if this site was not updated for a long time. I took some vacation (Israel is really a nice country ;-)) and I'm actually very busy with my studies :( Now that I have a few minutes, here are some little news about glLegacy for those of you who are waiting for (and to show you we are still very active on the project ;-)).
  • We are currently in a big debug stage to release as fast as possible the final version. The beta 8 which is a development one is out now for one week (see the DooM Legacy forum for more information), and Boris is working on the remaining bugs in the common part and in the hardware texture cache.
  • Meanwhile, the Linux version of glLegacy is in progress. As you might already know if you went on Bell Kin Legacy page, a first beta version is already out. This version still has some bugs but is already quite good and we can expect to have something realy good in the next few days. Unfortunately, it's still a version for experimented users. Other news will follow in the next few days... Stay tuned!

August 25, 1999
  • DooM Legacy beta 7 is available on this web site at the download section.
  • This is probably the latest public release before the final version. All the necessary files to run Legacy are available.
  • This version fixes a lot of remaining bugs and improve the OpenGL renderer. Like the beta 6 version, it includes the new network code from boris (including "joiningame") and two mouse support!
  • I'm a little tired today so that's all for now! But be sure there are lots of other interesting things to discover in this new version ;-)

August 23, 1999
  • Mandeep updated the FAQ page for OpenGL DooM Legacy beta 4

August 21, 1999
  • Version 1.29 beta 6 is available.
  • This version is common between original DooM Legacy and OpenGL version. Thus, the latest changes from Boris are also included. See newer news for more details about that version.

August 15, 1999
  • OpenGL DooM Legacy v1.29 beta 4 (r_opengl.dll v0.50) is available at the download section of this web site and on the official Doom Legacy web site at frag.com on the news section.
  • What's new in this version? FOV "what_you_want" (not only FOV 120) and bugs fixed (like hidden feet of monsters).
  • I HIGHLY recommend you to read the README.TXT file for more information of the latest changes in OpenGL DooM Legacy.

August 13, 1999
  • Well, it' seems this friday the 13th is not a good day for me. When I woke up I learned I forgot to put r_opengl.dll in the archive of beta 3 (instead, I put a bad version of r_glide.dll). Now, I receive some mails telling me some people have some problems with the latest betas. Fortunately, there are not glLegacy problems so here are my recommandations:
    • Be sure you've got r_opengl.dll with the beta 3 archive (previous r_opengl.dll don't work properly). If not, please download the archive again.
    • Be sure you use glLegacy.exe AND NOT the old windoom3.exe file. To be sure, just delete it.

August 12, 1999
  • OpenGL DooM Legacy v1.29 beta 3 (r_opengl.dll v0.41) is available at the download section of this web site. This version is rather a little update of the previous beta.
  • The status bar is better supported (crosshair, menu's bug, weapons,...)
  • Better pallet changes
  • 3 modes for crappymlook: (Off, On, Full) or if you prefer (0, 1, 2). The "Full" mode is the same as the previous "On", and the new "On" mode is faster, but walls behind you can be hidden if you look at about 90° (up or down). It shouldn't be a big issue for most of you, that's why it replaces the previous "On".
  • Maybe some other good things I forgot to mention ;-)

August 6, 1999
  • OpenGL DooM Legacy v1.29 beta 2 (r_opengl.dll v0.31) is available at the download section of this web site and on the official Doom Legacy web site at frag.com on the news section.
  • This version includes all the things in beta 1 plus it also add the splitscreen and some minor improvement.
  • Warning! The file windoom3.exe is now named glLegacy.exe. That means you may need to modify your parameter in the launcher if you don't use the config file from the archive.

July 21, 1999
  • OpenGL DooM Legacy v1.29 beta 1 (r_opengl.dll v0.20) is available at the download section of this web site.
  • This version included a new faster 3d engine and all the files necessary to run DooM LEGACY, including the launcher and doom3.wad. Dynamic lighting, splitscreen and "fov 120" will be available in the next beta release. You should read the README.TXT file included with the archive for more informations.
  • As I already said the DooM Legacy forum, I'll ask you to be patient for the next release because I'm currently working as a student job at de pinxi. Also I've broken my arm and it's not easy to type on a keyboard :( And last but not least the Linux version is on the way. That's why I don't have a lot of time right now to improve the OpenGL version.

June 30, 1999
  • Some news for those of you who are waiting for that. I'm currently working on the dynamic lighting for the OpenGL version, of DooM LEGACY. Of course this will be easily included in the glide version after. I've put a message on the Doom Legacy forum (message 564) about that. You can see there some screenshots of the latest development version I have.

June 22, 1999
  • The F.A.Q page of OpenGL DooM Legacy has been updated. Mandeep 'Pharaoh' Gill is still searching for others 3d-cards (particularly for ATI's and i740). This FAQ adds support of nVidia Riva TNT, Matrox G200 and 3Dfx Voodoo3 cards. It also adds a "Game FAQ" section for problems while in the game and supports new Alpha 6 development version with coronas.

June 18, 1999
  • Do you want some good news? Well... here is one! The version which adds lighting effects is finally available here for testing and enjoying it! I'm waiting for your comments... See you on the new DooM LEGACY forum ! Note that this version is not available on the download page because it's a development one. The actual version number is v0.00019.

June 16, 1999
  • I've updated the screenshots page with screenshots I've posted last week on DooM LEGACY forum and with new one from the new OpenGL v0.00017. This version is actually a development one. That's why it can't be downloaded here for the moment. However, you can ask me by e-mail if you want to be a tester. This version adds lighting effects, the first visible effects which are not implemented in DooM LEGACY v1.28.
