3dfx Voodoo 3 FAQ - Submitted by Pharaoh / Kibble

OpenGL Driver Installation

The Voodoo 3 boasts some of the fastest performance ever seen with a 3D card, and despite some of its shortcomings, it is probably the best way to play GL Doom Legacy. First download the latest drivers from 3dfxs web site and install them. This will set up an OpenGL ICD, which can be used to play GL Legacy with, but for faster performance download the 1.48 Mini-GL from 3dfxs site, here. Extract the drivers as instructed to a temporary folder, and copy the 'opengl32.dll' from the Quake1 directory created within the temporary folder into the GL Doom Legacy folder. This should now make GL Doom Legacy use the Voodoo 3 Mini-GL, which result in incredibly high framerates, as can be seen on the benchmarks section.

FAQ

I haven't encountered any other problems with the Voodoo 3, but if you find any specific to the Voodoo 3 then mail me.

Tweaks

There are several tweaks which can be used to increase performance on the Voodoo 3, such as disabling 'wait for V-sync' and overclocking the clock speed of the Voodoo 3, but remember that overclocking your Voodoo 3 will result in voiding your warranty and possible hardware failure. It is recommended to use Voodoo3 Overclock to tweak your Voodoo 3 as required.
