The to-do's list was getting too long, now instead we will present the most suggested features, and those we want to do. We will keep here about the 20 most wanted features, and only those that are not already done.

Here's the things we won't do : we just don't have time and will to implement every possible feature. Don't get mad reading through this, a bit of humour is good for your health.
| Crouch,
crawl :
a proud marine doesn't crawl, he stands up and dies like
a brave warrior. Stepping sounds : it just *destroys* the deathmatch, maybe for single/coop but not priority Better AI for monsters : monsters are NOT intelligent, they're just cannon fodder. Bots : bots don't have humour, ever tried to taunt at your bot ? Ok, we know it's fun to fight against good Bots (I love the ReaperBot for Quake), but this is a whole project in itself. Weapon recoil : the marine is pushed back when firing big weapons.. John Romero himself advised us not to do it, we bow to the great Doom Lord. ; ) A jetpack : ah.. do you imagine a marine with a jetpack in Doom ?...well if you do it's time to switch to another Doom port. New weapons : we don't plan to add any weapons to the game. We have enough work enhancing the visuals and game options. We will however make Legacy extendable in a way that new weapons can be added. Falling damage : we find it useless, it just complicates the gameplay while not adding any fun to it. Apart maybe a new death sequence : virtually suicide yourself from the top of a Doom building. Whoa, loads of fun. |
Don't despair, though. While we are almost sure not to implement these features ourselves, they may be contributed by other persons.
Hurra ! While cleaning up that mammoth of a to-do list it was, we have noticed that a lot of the suggestions have been actually implemented. ; )
We put first the
features that have been done.
This is a
feature that has to be implemented.
| Compile a 100% Doom2 v1.9 - compatible Doom version, with sound, music, network, and demos (lmps). | |
| Optimise the core rendering inner-loops into assembly. Of course it's always possible to optimise further, we're no asm gods...still a lot of optimising to do here. |
SKINS:
Skins,
like in Quake allow each player to have its own graphics. Skins
will be in wad files, Doomatic will copy every player's skin to
each other before starting a deathmatch. Here's some skins ideas,
for you artists out there... I'm a bit lazy for now.
| Leprechauns! Our great Leprechaun patch will of course be included as a skin! | |
| Interstate 76 : sixties look with funky music and all... | |
| Power rangers : just for the colors and the ridicule costumes... | |
| Lara Croft : mmmh, I like this one ! |
| 10 recorded voice taunts that you can throw at your opponents using Alt-F1...Alt-F10. | |
| Allow level/patches designers to associate particular sounds with particular events. Eg: allow a specific sound when the BFG is picked up, when death in lava pit ... |
| Full setup controls from the game menu, much better than 'setup', now you can assign any 'control' to any key/mousebutton or joybutton. Assign mouse and keys to anything. | |
| Autorun toggle | |
| Mouselook toggle, Mouselook sensitivity, Invert mouse for mouselook |
| Shortcut any key to a weapon. Done. |
| Key controls: Next Weapon, Prev Weapon. |
NEW IN-GAME GRAPHICS AND EFFECTS:
| Rockets trails, like in Heretic. Especially beautiful with the transparency effect. |
| Translucency: a selection of objects are now translucent : BFG and Plasma balls, monsters projectiles, bullet puffs, fire ... | |
| Special transparency for torches : only the flame part is translucent. | |
| Fog effect |
LEVEL DESIGN:
| Located, Ambience sounds. Probably implemented as new 'THINGS' for level designers. |
GAME FEATURES:
| Crosshair. Choose between a cross, an angle, or a point. | |
| Add jump ability. | |
| Shoot up or down. You can shoot the ceiling and the floors. | |
| A Console like Quake to have control over all game parameters, play demos, load external levels, run dehacked patches and so on... | |
| Fullscreen with infos. Press '+' with statusbar active, you're in full screen with infos, press '+' again for fullscreen without infos. |
DEATHMATCH ADDITIONS:
| Enhanced weapon switching : player chooses its preferred weapon order. Doesn't switch weapon when picking up/walking over a weapon when you don't want to use it directly. | |
| Deathmatch Rankings stats. Like Quake, display the name of the players, plus their colors and their frags. It's done! | |
| Death messages as in Quake : no more fight over the flesh, you'll know who's _really_ had the frag. |
| Blood stays longer on the floor : track your enemy by his blood spreads hehehe.. |
| Deathmatch mode D2.0 Enhanced : release Backpack with ammos and weapons when dies, like in Quake. |
| Teamplay : teams add their frags, and removes only armor points when they touches their partners. | |
| Minimum time on the intermission screen, I'm tired of not seeing the frags count because someone pressed a key... |
DEMOS:
| Play demos from any directory (eg: -playdemo demos\cooldemo), thats a ridiculous feature, but when you like to keep demos, its really annoying to have all your demos in the main Doom dir., now you can put them in subdirs and play them from there. | |
| Show player's statusbar and hear player's sounds when changing the viewpoint while looking at a demo (F12). It's also a very nice addition for cooperative as you hear what your coops hear when you look at their view. The statusbar swaps only when playing back demos, not when playing cooperative, like the original Doom. | |
| Record player names into the demos. The name that you set in the multiplayer/options game menu is recorded in the demos, along with the name of the other players. If you change your name during the game, the change is also recorded! | |
| Record text into the demos! We record the messages that you send to other players using the 'talk' key. When playing back the demo, you can see again your messages! You can even talk to yourself, so that you can record messages in a SOLO demo to present your own maps! |
BACKWARD COMPATIBILITY:
| 99,99% dehacked patches support : use -dehacked <filename.deh> If you like superweapons patches, and the like, it should work no problem with our support. The difference is that now you don't need to patch the exe. Supports TEXT changes, sprite renaming.. anything! |
MISCELLANEOUS:
| Support for Win95 keys. Now they'll serve something... |
| Interrupt the program at any moment using CTRL-Break. |
| Support 16bit stereo quality sounds, and allow a high quality sounds mode. | |
| Sound effect options (if fast enough) : deepen stereo effect. |
MULTIPLAYER:
| Multiplayer menu: choose your preferred color and enter your name. The name of the players are displayed in the deathmatch rankings, and also when receiving messages. You can change your color at any time while playing a net game (your name too)! | |
| Up to 32 players. However you'll need a deathmatch launcher which supports more than 4 players... why not try our great launcher called 'Doomatic'? | |
| We have added 7 'deathmatch' colors (for a total 11 colors). | |
| ESCAPE possible while Doom starts the connection, so that you don't have to reboot when someone else crashes or does CTRL-break. | |
| Join a game which has already started (open entry multiplayer)... ouch! | |
| TCP/IP Internet play |
MUSIC:
| Play mids : you can insert a MID into a wad in place of the old MUS. Since we had to convert MUS to Mid before playing them, it's not a problem. | |
| DIGMID : play midi using GUS patches. You don't need a GUS, just the patches (samples). | |
| CD music : select track, volume, stop, start, loop/next. |
GRAPHICS:
| Allow artists to choose the rate of animations and number of frames. | |
| Implement high res textures (double horizontal and vertical size). | |
| High color textures. |
VIDEO:
| Support all extended VESA2 linear frame buffer modes.Full support SVGA : can switch to any VESA2 mode with the good aspect ratio, can switch video mode in the menu, save video mode in default config | |
| Choose a video mode from the menu, while in the game. Just like Quake. | |
| High color mode(s) : not only better shadings, but also allow artists to use high-color textures. |
LIMITS FIX / BUG FIXES:
| Can load sprites and flats from external pwads : this is done ! |
ENGINE:
| Freelook. May look a little above and below, like in Heretic. But can use the mouse for freelook like in Duke Nukem. Add the Invert mouse option. Yes! It's done! Free look : look up and down like Heretic (mouse supported). | |
| Transparent rippling water, like in Amiga 'ALIEN BREED 3D'. Hard one... did I say hard one? he he he... Now its nearly finished!! See the sneak preview in Update 2. | |
| High res textures. No more patchworks when looking walls from a short distance. | |
| Multiple floors rooms, with staircases and all... ooooh that one hurts my little coder fingertips... | |
| Goureaud-like shading between sectors. Demo coders want to work on this? |
DOOMATIC:
| Handle display of up to 32 players on the screen. |
